Jedi in Highgate

My wife brought to my attention about what she saw on the BBC News yesterday Friday, 5th of December, 2014. The bizarre incident occurred at 9.45pm on the 11th of September, 2014 at a shop in Highgate, London. The CCTV show the shopper keeper Mr Aftab Haider, 56 going about his normal business what seems to be stocking up his wares. Then a man who looked Eastern European, wearing a black bomber jacket entered his shop. The gentleman tapped Mr Haider on his right upper arm as he passed him and waited at the end of corridor. The CCTV showed Mr Haider after reaching the end of the corridor turned back and go to meet the gentleman. The man began talking to Mr Haider and touching Mr Haider abdomen and shoulder and after doing was seemed to be miming the gesture of a pregnant woman’s belly he began emptying the contents of the shopkeeper’s pockets. As another customer entered the shop, he used Mr Haider body to expertly block from the view of the new customer

World AIDS Day

Celebrated on 1st December (World AIDS Day) , we marked it some days before on Saturday 29th November, 2014 with a presentation by one of our church members who is an expert in that field. She captured our attention by us asking a few simple questions about AIDS its transmission and different scenarios or situations that we might find ourselves in. I was lucky in that I had attended a presentation some years earlier by our Prof, my former room mate (Prof Shina Oladokun of UCH Ibadan) on its transmission in pregnancy and I was able to get most her questions right. The Prof told us that although the virus was in the breast milk and could spread to the child, so they would start the child on anti-retroviral therapy (although the child was HIV negative) during the time the baby was receiving breast milk it where it acted as prophylaxis therapy. Our Prof also mention because of the cultural stigma, attached to AIDS they had various techniques to discretely treat the wo

Obesity Epidemic - Life is Good

My wife began noticing that I occasionally saw a similar overweight person on TV, with puffed-out cheeks, a distended abdomen, and a shining face. She thought I had become delighted. She said that I became excited as I began to mutter under my breath, "Life Is Good!" As some people who were overweight had great difficulty in both breathing and moving. Some of us were both fast on our feet and were quick all-rounders, their movements being smooth and what seemed exaggerated due to their body mass. They had quick and precise body moves and could out-dance anyone thinner with a similar height or lower BMI, maybe because they had more parts to move.  This ideology on loving overweight ladies may have come from a previous life in Nigeria. I could totally blame my senior brother and closer male relatives for inserting these thoughts on me. As we would become excited, whenever we saw such a lady with a big tummy, big buttocks, big breast dancing and wiggling all the fat and flesh

Only in Nigeria!

We were celebrating the birthday celebration of one of our friend's children,  and as usual, a few of the 'men folk' who were able to detach themselves from kitchen activities and migrated outside to form a subgroup (with the ladies permission, I might say). And the topics ranged from politics to football and mentioned the current Ebola crisis and how well Nigeria had seemed to control it. After eating the usual Jollof or special fried rice, fried chicken, etc. and washing down with 'minerals' (soft drinks). The discussion quickly switched to Nigeria, and the usual Nigerian bashing began then. After a while, one of them said, "Why Nigeria can't it be just like the UK?". "If Nigeria was even 10% of the UK, I would not have left, Nigga", he added. Already people were beginning to feel the heat in the UK and were slightly uncomfortable. Apart from experiencing what they felt might be a form of indirect racism. Some of my brother

Ebola - Biological Weapon?

I was just in the gym this morning (Thursday, 9th of October, 2014). A group of guys in the male’s bathroom stated that Ebola did not originate in Africa but created by the USA in a laboratory to wipe out the black population. And that this is a test run, and why did they ‘suddenly’ come up with a drug that ‘cured’ the white guys infected.  They pointed to the fact that the US has already got a patent for the drug since 2008 ( http://www.google.com/patents/US20120251502 .) All I could tell them was that I knew about the Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers for about 30 years, and there were recorded incidents in the 1960s, and this could be traced back to the 1920s. Most doctors know about these already – most of the time, it mentions in their footnotes (but you have to be ready to treat a case and diagnose one). The reason why the majority of the population have not heard of them is that until now they have been affecting mainly rural areas deep in the Afr
