Paying of Tithes 2

On November 18, 1978, 909 people killed themselves allegedly  by drinking  cyanide -laced grape-flavored  Flavor Aid. The reason it is alleged that it was as to protest against the US government for "invading" their "paradise". Entering into  common   usage the term " They all drank the kool-aid ". This means that people are manipulated in doing what they might not have done by psychological techniques. Like deception, peer pressure, terrorizing, etc. Jim Jones was a young dynamic  charismatic leader of the People's Temple who was able to offer some hope. The story is sad has those people were offered what was seen as hope but in the long term was simple manipulation and stealing.  Jim Jones began to face various allegations among which he said to have been diverting the income of cult members to his own personal use. Amid the these accusations, Jim Jones and hundreds of his followers emigrated to Guyana and set up an agricultural commune...

Paying of Tithes

Daddy Freeze (Ifedayo Olarinde) is a Nigerian radio host, presenter, and an OAP (On Air Personality). He started what may be described as a mini religious reformation in Nigeria. As the printing press had a profound effect on spreading the message of Martin Luther. The internet and social media, as well as the radio waves spread is spreading his message in the deeply religious Nigeria. His message seems to have strike a cord among many. I personally might have not given it much thought and I have tried to pay it has often as possible when working. This might be due to the fact that my church is being as transparent as possible I have seen the effect of my contributions to people world wide as we have a section in our church which brings us mission report. During the mission report it shows how the church money is building schools, hospitals, etc in various regions of the globe. There is also an audit report and financial statement after each financial year, this is presented to the ...

The issue of counting Nigeria’s Population - Part 2

This year there was a fire in a Northern London tower block that killed a lot of people. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea happens to one of the richest with an average income that will be others' envy. There is an accusation of social cleansing, forcing low-income earners out of its expensive borough. Part of the policy may seem to be that the borough’s alleged action on social housing. It was thought that they had a policy of doing the barest minimum for the blocks, making them uninhabitable, frustrating the tenants, and indirectly forcing them out. Allowing the council then to convert the run-down area to luxury flats for the very rich. The borough has one of the highest salary disparity in the world, hence causing widespread inequality. So, after people died due to what seems to be due to cheap flammable building materials. It was not long before the fingers began pointing. There was political blaming, and the government was accused of hiding the true number of fa...

Gari - The Nigerian Product

When growing up in Nigeria, my father made it a duty to go to the farm. Hence we were all farmers in the making, my late father. If he wasn’t an accountant or nurse, he would have been a farmer, and he knew it. He would drag all of us to the numerous farms he had, where we grew either yam, cassava, sweet potato, corn, guinea corn, rice, etc.. He would drag all of us to the farm some of the evenings where we would use hoes and cutlasses. If we tried to avoid my father, we had my mother to deal with. She has involved in the processing of the farm produces to its products. She also had poultry, where we had chickens and turkey. Later it dawned on my parents that they should do it for cheaper if they got professionals to do it or even a tractor, but by this time, we had become proficient in using these implements. And even get it at a lower price if they had concentrated on what they knew best, i.e. using their God-given talents to produce money and just brought the finished prod...

The Real Neil

There are 3 arms of government in the USA. Republicans control all the 3, the Executives has President Trump (also, the governors are Democratic 32%(16), Republican 66% (33) and Independent 2% (1)), The legislators the 115th United State Congress, i.e. Senate 52% Republican and the House of Representatives 55.3% Republican. In short, Trump has a majority to pass any law he intends to. To add salt to the wound, for the 3rd arm of government, the Judicial, President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the supreme court; he seems to be a conservative to the core, from the type of judgments Neil had been rendering. Judge Gorsuch had written a book against assisted suicide and euthanasia; he seems pro-life, pro-gun, etc., a safe bet for the Republican party, especially after they had frustrated the Democrats under Obama to appoint their Judges to the supreme court.   Earl Warren US Republican President Dwight David " Ike " Eisenhower, the 34th President more than...

Science, religion, and Trump

I have at times found myself questioning my religious faith. Unlike some, it has not always been solid and firm as a rock. But like Saint Peter, Thomas, James, etc. especially during their early days, it has its ups and downs. Especially when going through challenges in life, like young people close to me dying, seeing evil people prosper, good people suffer, seeing injustice and on a massive scale, etc. But I am rest assured that things will work out in the end and from personal experience, things have worked out in the end and kind of justify my faith. And become like the Bereans in the book of Acts searching the scriptures, in some cases using the Amplified Bible as to fully understand what I was reading. Fighting sometimes with whether the Bible is talking literally or metaphorically, but that is another topic (e.g. Joshua 10:3 - “ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed”, as what is known today that the earth’s rotation stopped temporary - as the sun and moon in rel...

The issue of counting Nigeria’s Population Part 1

The Nigerian population issue has been on the back of our society for a long time. Recently the Nigerian House of Assembly talked about having another census in 2018. According to the assembly, it was supposed to take place every 10 years, and the planning for it will be 2 years. By the time the British left in 1960, they made it such that no single tribe or region could rule Nigeria on its own. It was felt that the British created a scenario which means that none of the 3 major tribes could rule on their own - hence all of the major tribes had to co-operate or at least 2 of the 3. Since the regions voted along tribal lines, each of main tribes was represented by a party; Northern Region - Northern People's Congress (NPC), Eastern Region - The National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) and the Western Region - Action Group (AG). There always had to be a coalition between 2 regions out of the 3 regions to form a government. There was the issue of minorities being in each ...
