What do doctors wish patients knew?

I do not know whether most doctors would want their patients to know this (as it may put them out of their jobs), but this is a scientific fact. That prevention is better than cure, and living a healthy lifestyle will go a long way in preventing many diseases. More money should be spent on primary health care than on the other branches of medicine.

That vaccinations are outstanding (as they prevent many childhood diseases that killed or caused severe damage to many children before), and there is no current scientific evidence that they are related to autism. Patients should always come for all their appointments and finish their entire course of treatment. However, they might feel, e.g., especially with Antibiotics. They should restrict the amount of red meat, increase the amount of vegetables and fruits, and increase the water intake. Reduce the amount of sugar, processed food, artificial colouring, etc. Reduce the amount of alcohol and avoid recreational drugs altogether. Never smoke cigarettes, and avoid smoking cannabis.

Try to brush your teeth twice a day after eating. Remember to floss regularly and keep regular dentist appointments. If you are bleeding from your gums, it is likely due to plaque buildup, which means you are not brushing as you should. But get it checked to be safe, as it is one of the initial signs of leukaemia and other serious diseases. Avoid using your teeth as a bottle opener, it is a good party trick, but it could lead to severe damage.
Exercise regularly and visit the doctor often for regular routine medical check-ups, blood pressure, blood tests, etc. Take care of your posture and follow sitting instructions, i.e. straight back, etc. If you have a sitting job, avoid sitting for prolonged periods at a stretch (more than 45 minutes a stretch). If possible, get an adjustable or stand-up desk if you can afford it, or just put a light tea table (to carry your monitor and keyboard, with office stationery) on the top of the main desk and buy a bar stool to use when your legs tire. They say sitting is the new smoking, and apart from causing back pain, it may predispose you to cancer, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, etc. When there is a change in a skin mole, inform the doctor immediately. For free medical blood tests, screening or check-ups, take advantage, however, how minor or insignificant, e.g. HIV tests, prostate cancer blood tests, blood pressure, etc. The earlier they find something wrong, the better the prognosis. Although HIV can be treated as a chronic disease and the prognosis has significantly improved, do not involve yourself in risky sexual behaviour, as some sexually transmitted diseases could still damage your body. Whenever possible, try to be affectionate to your partner and might further explore your bodies, be adventurous - avoid sadomasochism. It usually indicates a severe psychopathy, which could lead to embarrassing situations in the A/E department at your local hospital or with the police.
Whatever you might read or see, people are living longer, and fewer children are dying from preventable diseases. On the whole, the general health state of the human race, especially in developed countries, is improving.
Always read up on diseases and follow up on advice. Whenever there are areas of concern, inform your doctor immediately. If you are dark-skinned, living in temperate countries and cannot afford to go out into the sunlight, take Vitamin D supplements. Try to reduce your meat intake as much as possible, especially red meat - as said above. Also, avoid eating processed food and prepare your food from natural ingredients - or go organic for periods. Some chemical compounds that produce a bigger and more plentiful output, like pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, etc., enter the food chain and are difficult to remove by simple washing and ordinary cooking. Remember your fruit and fibres; you will be very grateful when you defecate easily without pain and stress. Also, your colon will be very grateful, and it decreases your incidence of bowel cancer. Still, on eating, it is only sometimes necessary to eat till your stomach nearly bursts. Eat in moderation with fluids and occasionally fast is good for the soul.
As regards mental health, always maintain a positive mental attitude there are certain things you cannot change, so learn to accept it. Pray for "the serenity to accept the things that you cannot change, the courage to change the things that you can, and the wisdom to know the difference". Develop mental coping strategies (meditation, time to yourself, sleeping well, good nutrition, friendship, hobbies, spirituality, humour, etc.) and avoid negative coping strategies like drugs, self-mutilation, stimulants, excessive working, etc. Have an active social life, join clubs or find people with similar interests, go out together, and do not restrict yourself to your room. Belling up your "bad" emotions to yourself is not good. Suppose you have difficulty with people or in addition to your human relationships. In that case, you can get yourself a pet. These love you unconditionally, and it wonders for your self-being and endorphins level in the blood.
Remember that no one is an island, and many people die earlier. They do not seek professional help from their doctors because they feel it is a minor complaint or do not want to waste their doctor's time. Blood from any orifice is a concern; one should get medical advice.
High blood pressure is a silent killer; the only way to pick it up is by regular blood pressure monitoring.
Alternative medicine remedies are not the main event; there is no scientific basis for many of them. Word of mouth is good, but it could be better to base your life on scientific research and proven results. Many of your non-medical friends may not be the best source of advice for anything medically wrong with you. Seek professional help.
As for women, if you want to have children, do it as early as possible, above 24, because there is reduced maternal morbidity and mortality, which increases with age. Unfortunately, the older you are, the more complications there are, and the higher the incidence of congenital malformations in the babies. Males, too, are affected by age, but it is not as much as females. IVF does work in some cases, but could be very expensive.

If you manage to grow old, the longer you stay immobilized the worse the prognosis of any disease. When sick whenever it is possible for you to walk, do so and see a physiotherapist as soon as possible. Stay working as long as possible and make sure you lead an active life to the end. If you find you are retired due to one reason or another put all your energy into something else like as a volunteer for a charity or going for a new course in art and design, drawing, debating, etc. Invite your children or nephew or niece, grandchildren as often as possible indulged them as much as possible so you house will be that of laughter and joy

The seedling of doubt - Merchants of Doubt

Doubt is the product What this book says, and the film elucidates is there is a selective specific group of "scientists" who have a particular playbook to discredit, confuse and "muddy the waters" against scientific research for their sponsors. What these group of people or interest groups have learned from the days of dealing with the tobacco industry, is that they need not concern themselves with trying to prove anything or to disprove the scientists. All they need is to seed doubt and confusion in the market of public opinion, their main motto is "Doubt is our product". As, when people are confused and the policies are difficult to interpret because they are complicated, ambiguous, inconclusive, etc then there will be great difficulty in organizing widespread opposition to it. They deliberately frustrate governments into inaction, blocking them by using their lobbyist and "experts" and hence stop all ways of finding effective solutions...

The end of a massive killer - The Malaria vaccine story

It got its name from Rome.  The "bad air" ( Medival Latin' mala aria' ) surrounding ...

Further explaination of the universe

Stephen Hawking, a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author, has always tried to explain complex astrophysical phenomena in simple language that everyone can understand. The subtitle of this book is "a further explanation of a science classic made more accessible". To his surprise, his book A Brief History of Time was a bestseller and was on the top ten list for 237 weeks and sold one copy for every 750 people on Earth. The book was a remarkable success for a modern physics book. Many people were asking for a sequel to the book. A Brief History of Time explained how Newtonian Astrophysics described the laws that control planets and stars' movement. This book takes into consideration the most recent theoretical and observational results. How light speed is finite and constant at 299,792,458 m/s. Since the speed of light is constant, to explain the different observations for different observers, time must be relative. Producing the twin paradox, i.e., time slows d...
